Getting Started with HOAOS

This guide will help you get your community association set up on HOAOS in just a few minutes.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, you'll need:

  • An email address for your association (preferably a board email)
  • Basic information about your community (name, state, type)
  • A list of board members' email addresses (optional but recommended)

Step 1: Create Your Account

  1. Go to hoaos.app/signup
  2. Enter your email address and click "Continue"
  3. Check your email for a magic link and click it to verify
  4. You'll be redirected to the onboarding wizard

Step 2: Set Up Your Association

The onboarding wizard will guide you through setting up your association:

  1. Association Details - Enter your community name, address, and contact info
  2. Association Type - Select HOA, Condo, or Co-op (this determines which compliance rules apply)
  3. State - Select your state for automatic compliance configuration
  4. Fiscal Year - Set your fiscal year start month

Tip: Choose Your State Carefully

HOAOS automatically applies state-specific compliance rules. Make sure to select the correct state - this affects record retention periods and other statutory requirements.

Step 3: Invite Board Members

Once your association is set up, invite your fellow board members:

  1. Go to Settings → Team
  2. Click Invite Board Member
  3. Enter their email address and select their role (President, Treasurer, etc.)
  4. They'll receive an email invitation to join

Step 4: Configure Your Settings

Take a few minutes to configure your association:

  • Branding - Upload your logo and set your colors
  • Payment Processing - Connect your Stripe account to accept payments
  • Communications - Configure email templates and notification preferences
  • Member Access - Set up the member portal settings

Step 5: Add Your Members

You have several options for adding members:

  • Manual Entry - Add members one at a time through the admin dashboard
  • CSV Import - Upload a spreadsheet with your member data
  • Self-Registration - Allow members to request access through the portal
